Remember to call the Dekalb Humane Society if you have lost your pet. Our goal is to reunite lost pets with their families. Also call your local police department, your local KPC Newspaper office (they provide free lost ads), and nearby vet offices to increase the chances of getting your pet back to you safe and sound. If you have found a stray animal, the shelter and local veterinary clinics have microchip scanners to see if a found animal has a microchip.

Microchipping is an excellent identification option. A small chip is inserted underneath the skin with a number that is unique to your animal. If your animal is ever lost and finds their way to the shelter, a scanner is used and can pick up that unique number from the chip. A phone call to the microchip company can provide the owner's contact info and ensures the animal has minimal time at the shelter and returns to their family in no time at all!
